[VMWare] – How to patch a vCenter 6.5 appliance

  1. First, download the update from the following URL: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch#search (note: you need to have a free account @ VMWare)
  2. Select VC and version 6.5.0 from the drop-down menus

3.  Take a snapshot of your Vcenter VM

4. Upload the downloaded ISO to your datastore, then connect the ISO to your Vcenter VM.

5. SSH into your Vcenter VM (you can use Putty or whatever SSH client you want)

6. Run the following command: Command> software-packages install –iso –acceptEulas

7. Accept the EULA and wait until the patching finishes (see sample upgrade window below):

 

8. Reboot the VCenter using shutdown reboot -r update

That’s all, you should now have an updated VCenter.
